Join us for a reading with Dmitry Samarov, author of Soviet Stamps at City Lit Books on Thrusday, January 30th at 6:30 PM, in conversation with Kyle Beachy, author of The Slide.
Soviet Stamps is about how Dmitry Samarov became an artist. Through written vignettes, artwork, and family photos, the book charts Samarov's emigration from the USSR in 1978, on to his attempts to fit into American society and peripatetic attempts to earn a living, while continuing to create artwork. It will be published in a limited-edition, foil-stamped hardcover run of 800 signed-and-numbered copies.
Dmitry Samarov writes dog portraits and paints book reviews in Chicago, IL. He is the author of Hack: Stories From a Chicago Cab, Where to? A Hack Memoir, and Music to My Eyes.
Kyle Beachy is a novelist and essayist who has spent much of the last decade writing and talking internationally about skateboarding. His work on the subject can be found in The Point, The American Reader, Jenkem Magazine, and elsewhere. He is on the faculty at Roosevelt University and a regular on the Vent City podcast.
