Author Event: Larry Broutman and "Chicago Eternal"

Join us at City Lit Books for a conversation with Larry Broutman, author of Chicago Eternal at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018.

Chicago’s rich history comes alive through Larry Broutman’s illuminating photographs of gravestones and monuments. This elegant coffee table book explores over thirty Cook County cemeteries, and each image is accompanied by text that provides fascinating insight into the deceased’s life and cultural contributions.

The cemeteries of Chicago preserve the stories of those who built the brawny city by the lake. Larry Broutman has been researching Chicago's cemeteries and recording them with his beautiful photography for the past five years. In the pages of Chicago Eternal, he takes readers on a spectacular tour of death's domain, which is, in another sense, a celebration of the fullness and flourishing of life.

Larry Broutman attended MIT, where he received his S.B., S.M., and doctorate degree in the field of Materials Engineering and Science in 1963. During his career in Polymer Engineering and Science he was an active researcher, teacher (Illinois Institute of Technology), and writer of over 150 technical articles. He also authored technical reference books and college textbooks in the field of Composite Materials. Broutman has received many honors and awards in the profession of plastics Engineering and was recently elected to the Plastics Hall of Fame. He is also an award-winning wildlife photographer. His previous two photography books were Chicago Unleashed and Chicago Monumental.
