Elisa Birnbaum is the publisher and editor-in-chief of SEE Change Magazine, a digital publication of social entrepreneurship and social change. A journalist and television producer for over 15 years, she’s a regular contributor on social entrepreneurship for the National Post and has been published in a variety of publications including the Globe & Mail, Profit, and Lifestyles Magazine. She holds degrees in political science and law and lives in Toronto, Ontario.
After 13 years in the insurance industry, Maria Kim joined Cara in 2005. Her civic leadership includes service on the Cook County Commission on Social Innovation and board leadership at the EPIC Academy and Rebuilding Exchange. She was a fellow for Leadership Greater Chicago’s Class of 2008, served on the board for the Leadership Fellows Association in 2009 and 2010, was a 2012 American Marshall Memorial Fellow, and a 2013 TEDxMidwest Emerging Leader. Maria holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Maria’s side hustle: “Personal shopper, getting folks fashion forward-ish on a budget”.
Laura Zumdahl became the President and CEO of New Moms in 2013. Laura considers it a privilege to lead a dynamic organization like New Moms and our social enterprise, Bright Endeavors. Laura’s career has been focused on growing and developing effective nonprofit organizations. Laura came to New Moms after serving in leadership roles in the nonprofit sector in capacity building, legal aid, higher education, and child welfare. She has a B.A. in Sociology from Trinity Christian College; a M.A. in Social Work from the University of Chicago, School of Social Service Administration; and a Ph.D. in Leadership from Cardinal Stritch University. Laura was a Chicago Community Trust Nonprofit Leadership Fellow in 2010 and currently serves as a board member of Chicago Jobs Council and Trinity Christian College.
